Day 1

She has not left her room for over a week. Sometimes she forgets there's a world outside.

Day 2

She does not know if it is something she can be proud of. But she feels good when people tell her that she has a quiet face.

Her mother used to tell her to keep her voice down in the house because her father was sleeping all the time.

Day 3

She numbers everything in her life. It calms her down.

She asks boyfriend no.7 to look after her bedroom no.5 when she is away for her vacation no.3.

Day 4

People tell her that she never smiles in photographs. And she always has this strange expression on her face, as if she is somewhere else or has an acute stomach ache.

She is too embarassed to tell people that it's because her face can never make up its mind.

She is actually a very happy person.

Day 5

Change every "he" to "she".

Then she knows him.

No more doubts and worries. She walks into his every corners. When she opens her mouth, she speaks his language without knowing it. When she closes her eyes, she dreams his dream.

Change every "here" to "there".

Then she is free.

Travel to a place that doesn't even exist. A small white house by the ocean.

Salty ocean wind.

Day 6

She sees herself all the time in her own dream. People says it's bad omen but she is happy to see herself.

She has much shorter hair in her dream, and speaks a very strange language. She always think it's just saying things backwards. She appears much more agile and friendly than she really is. Almost agitated.

The dream always ends when she tries to shake hands with herself. And she realises that she has no arms.

Day 7

She always tells him that they should travel to some far away places some time. That things would be different. That they would be happier.

So he began to collect travel guides. And read on one city a day.

He has already read about 126 cities.

Day 8

He re-decorates his room every week following photographs he saw in magazines. And he would behave in a different way, or speak slower, or wake up later.

He began to do things he has never done before.

He has sushi for the first time.

He does a handstand for the first time.

He has sex with a man for the first time.

Day 9

I have just created an image of you reading a message I wrote.

We are about 8,055 miles apart.

It's about 11 inches on the map I use.

It takes 18 hours by plane.

46 days on cruise.

1 week by mail.

38 cents / minute on the phone.

Less than a second to think.

A life's time to remember.

Day 10

There is only one window in his room, facing South East.

(She used to say he is her private window.)

The window is facing the back of another building. All he can see is the street corner. He calls it "the street corner" as if there's only one in the world.

(He begged her to meet him at the coffee place. She said, "Let's meet around the street corner.")

Whenever he feels lost, he finds his bearings again by staring at the street corner by his private window.

(In the movie, the groom told his bride, "I'll open a window on this side so you can see the mountain every morning when you wake up.")

Day 11

She walks by the tree and it's in full bloom. It has bright red flowers. It feels like the whole tree is burning. She almost goes blind when she tries to look at them.

Her hair changes colour when she wakes up the next day. Bright Red. Almost orange. It feels like burning.

"It feels like burning." He put his hand on her forehead. All she can see are his eyes. Bright red. Almost orange. She almost goes blind when she tries to look at them.

Day 12

She has worked in the tunnel toll booth for a long time. She can recognise her customers just by looking at their hands.

Mr. Skinny hand

Miss Purple nails

Mr. Chubby fingers

Mrs. Mickey Mouse ring

Mr. Blue veins

And she herself is Miss Foxy eyes.

She saw Mr. Blue veins one day on the subway. She kept her head down the whole trip. She was afraid that he will recognise her and she didn't want to see his face.

Day 13

He was never a very big person. But when she looks at him now, she still can't believe how light he seems to be. He doesn't seem to have any weight at all. It's almost funny just to imagine his lightness. She thinks of those astronauts bouncing on the moon surface, with those funny looking gears on them.

But he is naked. Too naked.

She wants to look away but she can't. She's just afraid that he will vanish into the thin air if she does so.

Day 14

She thinks this is much easier.

She loves a person with all her heart if he has a firm handshake. If he barely touches her hand, she never talk to him again.

Day 15

The girl in room 1 just wakes up.

The man in room 5 kicks a hole in his bathroom door.

The little girl in room 7 is dancing to music played on the radio.

The couples in room 12 is watching TV with no sound on.

The brunette in room 3 dyes her hair red.

The young man in room 6 dresses himself as a woman.

The plant in room 20 has just died.

The woman in room 2 is listening to messages on her answering machine.

The blonde in room 9 is shaving her leg.

The man in room 4 is looking at the back of his wife's neck.

Day 16

I'm not trying to add a happily-ever-after ending. I just want to be absolutely sure of something.

Day 17

She feels exhausted in the morning and wakes up in the middle of the night.

She can't stop crying when she's neither sad nor happy.

She trembles on the hottest day of the year. And sweats like pig just sitting in the house.

She thinks she is living somebody else's life. And somebody is living hers.

Day 18

It was 7:32 a.m. She still remembers it quite vividly. She was preparing breakfast when her mother came into the kitchen and said, "He has gone."

Her father was lying on the bed like every other morning. His body was still warm.

She thought that it would be the perfect time to find out if the soul has any weight at all. But she was too afraid to ask her mother if she could weigh his body.

Day 19

Her teacher says the criteria of good story writing are how it begins and how it ends.

She always writes the ending first and the beginning last. She never gets good marks.

She just thinks it's better to have something before the beginning and after the end.

Day 20

That is her way of going on exile. Put on a stamp and fly.

Day 21

The plastic plant he bought last Christmas is acting very strange lately. It bears a different kind of fruits everyday.

Orange, apricot, grapes, kiwi, olives, guava, baby banana, plums, red apple and green apple at the same time, blackberry, peaches....

He has the flu for well over a week now. It must know that he needs more vitamin C.

Day 22

He has lived with her for 5 years.

She told him everything but he never talked back. He just sat quietly next to her.

"You have such a quiet face." She told him all the time.

One sunny afternoon he walked into her room and said, "I would love to tell you where to find peace. But I can't."

It's the first time she heard his voice. He has a funny accent.

"You have such a calm voice." She told him.

Then he left and never came back.

It's already her dog no.4.

Day 23

"Miss Foxy eyes and Mr. Blue veins got married yesterday. He has beautiful eyebrows."

This is the last sentence she writes.

She doesn't know if this is the ending. But she likes the empty space that follows on the blank page.

A short rest.

Pause before singing the next line.

She clears her throat.

Day 24

There is no escape.

We have not yet reached the beginning.

You are an image I create.

We can be here forever if you wish.
